  • However,a hero would arrive that would clean the city of corruption. His name was Clifford Clinton
  •
  • Clifford Clinton[born in 1900]was the son of a pastor and this instilled in him Christian ideals such as compassion and charity. He opened a restaurant in Los Angeles called Clinton's Cafeteria and unlike every other restaurant in the city he allowed African Americans and served the homeless for free or even serving all his customers for free
  •
  • He was asked in 1935 to investigate food operations at County General Hospital by L.A C.S John Ford.He discovered the food patients were being served was often spoiled and the owners used favoritism to make sure the hospital remained in disrepair. He was then appointed to the county grand jury and began investigating corruption and vice as a whole, using the citizenry to force Mayor Shaw to allow hem to create a committee to investigate vice
  •
  • His private investigator of choice was Harry Raymond, the real life Phillip Marlowe. And he had a backstory worthy of any Noir.Athough he was a member of the corrupt LAPD and was neck deep in corruption and vice in the 1920s
  • And in fact was involved in the framing of City Council member Carl Jacobson in 1927 for attempting to investigate city hall and the LAPD
  • He was fired from the Vice Squad in 1933 and became a P.I and in 1936 finally agreed to work for Clinton and his committee called CIVIC to expose the corrupt Shaw administration.
