The 9 colonies here today have agreed to send a letter to King George requesting the repeal of the stamp act which requires every piece of paper to have the seal of the British on it. We have also decided to boycott British goods until the stamp act is repealed.
1773- The Tea Act
Isn't the tea act terrible! The tea price was lowered, but now we can only buy tea from the British! It's a monopoly!
I know! I feel like the British are trying to control us! I am starting to not like them that much.
1773- The Boston Tea Party
Your disguises are perfect, colonists. You look exactly like Mohawk Indians! Now we must dump this tea into Boston Harbor to rebel against the Tea Act that was put in place by the British!
The Stamp Act Congress was the first time the colonies came together and worked for a common goal and actually got what they wanted from the British.
1774- The Coercive/ Intolerable Acts
I can't believe that the Boston Harbor has been closed by the British because of the Boston Tea Party!
The Tea Act forced the colonists to buy their tea from one company which was owned by the British, and it made the colonists mad that they were being controlled concerning the choices they could make.
1775- Second Continental Congress
The Boston Tea Party marked one of the first times the colonists rebelled against the British when they thought something was unfair, and this led to the Coercive/ Intolerable acts.
1776- Common Sense by Thomas Paine is Published
Have you read Common Sense by Thomas Paine yet? I didn't agree with the book at first, but as I kept reading I thought about how what he was saying was all true!
The British showed the colonists how easily they could act after the colonists did something like the Boston Tea Party.
With the harbor closed I can't get what I need because goods aren't being brought in by ship. Also, I can't sell anything by ship because I don't have a place to ship it from! It's terrible!
The colonists made a final attempt at peace, showing how reluctant some colonists were about having freedom from the British.
I think we have agreed to send one more petition to the king asking for peace. While this is sent, a back up army will be formed by patriots in case King George doesn't like the petition. Does everyone agree?
The Common Sense pamphlet made people see that the British weren't helping the colonies but were hurting the colonies instead.
Yes, I have. I do think monarchy is a lousy form of government, British taxes and trade hurt us colonists, and the British shouldn't be able to control a whole continent from 3,000 miles away!
