The first satellite called Sputnik was launched into space on the 4th of October 1957 by the Soviet Union. It built up tension during the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Union as they were both developing new technologies.
In the 1960's the first prototype of the internet is created by ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). They were connected to the network and did testing to develop the technology.
The World Wide Web
In the 1970's Vint Cerf and Robert Kahn developed the Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol. This is known as TCP / IP. It allows communication between networks and was a huge achievement.
Ray Tomlinson creates emails in 1971. They are a quick and easy way to communicate with others. They gain popularity and are used by many people.
In 1989 British scientist Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web. He created 3 fundamental tecghnologies. The HTML (HyperText Markup Language), URI (Uniform Resource Identifier) and HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol).
In the past ten years social media has taken the world by storm. Many different apps such as Instagram and Facebook allow people to share photos and videos with others in a quick and easy way.
