Act 3 Summaries 4-6

Storyboard Text

  • 3:4 Capulet, Lady Cap, and Paris walk together. Capulet and Paris talk about Paris's feelings and Juliet's unknown feelings. Capulet promises Paris the wedding to be held on Wednesday, but then thinks it to soon, and moves it to Thursday.
  • 3:5 Romeo tries to leave Juliet's room, band they banter until Romeo leaves. Lady Cap enters to talk to Juliet about her and Paris's marriage, unaware of her already being wed to Romeo. After Capulet hears about Juliet's resistance and objections to the marriage he gets mad and yells at her, threatening to disown her. The Capulets exit, and Juliet turns to the Nurse for help. The Nurse advises her to go through with the marriage, and Juliet feels betrayed. She then seeks out the Friar.
  • 4:1 Friar Lawrence, Paris, and Juliet talk in the friar's cell. Paris is eager to get married and cheer up Juliet, but Juliet and the friar, who know the truth, are trying to talk Paris out of the marriage. Paris is arrogant, and Juliet indifferent, not wanting to betray Romeo. Once Paris leaves, Juliet freaks out, saying if the Friar doesn't help her she'll kill herself. Friar proposes a plan using a sleeping potion to make people think she is dead, and then Romeo will retrieving her from the tomb, to then escape to Mantua. Juliet agrees.
