Storyboard Text

  • Explaining Photosynthesis
  • Oh it's such a pretty day out! Look at all this sunlight!
  • All this light will help the plants in my mom's garden.
  •
  • You mean plants need to eat, too?
  • it really is a cool prcess, Ash. It's kinda like how we need to eat to survive.
  •
  • Look at these tomato plants, for instance!
  • My friend came over to help me redecorate my room, but I think we might be getting some learning done, instead. Ashley just told me she doesn't know what photosynthesis is!
  •
  • The first process is called the Calvin Cycle but sometimes referred to as the Light Cycle.
  • Photosynthesis completes itself through two processes!
  • To put it bluntly, yeah! Look, sunlight shines down on the leaf-tops, and then gets absorbed by the chloroplasts, in the mesophyll.
  •
  • The next process is called the Electron Transport Chain, but sometimes referred to as the Dark Cycle
  • They convert carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight into sugar and oxygen, it gives them energy, and helps give us air to breathe.
  •
  • Wow! That's soooo cool! You should be a teacher!
  • This is when CO2 splits into carbon and oxygen, and H2O splits into hydrogen and oxygen, the electrons from this process attach to NADPH, which is like a transit system!
  • This is when the electrons become part of a chemical reaction and produce glucose, which is a mix of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. ATP is also produced throughout both processes.
  • Well, that was my take on photosynthesis! I hope it made sense!
  • Well, I dunno about that, I still have a lot to learn, but I'm glad you get it now!
