  • Fear and Paranoia
  • Mary represents fear and paranoia throughout the entire story. She is driven by it when making decisions. Many times in the story she remains quiet or even speaks up because of the fear she has of Abigail and the other girls.
  • Witches and Prejudice
  • Abigail represents witchery and prejudice. Abigail is the bad in the story. She causes all the people whom she accused to be hanged. She started all of the lies threatened the girls of the town and told them that if they spoke of her lies that she would kill them
  • Reputation
  • John Proctor is the perfect representative for reputation. His reputation in the end caused him his life and this helped portray how important your reputation was in those times.

  • Giles Corey He is a good example of reputation because his reputation caused him his life as well. He had information that the people of the town wanted but he wouldn't give it up because he didn't want to ruin his reputation
