Indulgences are for the rich, I will take one thank you.
Disputation on the power and efficacy of indulgences.
July 1505, Luther was caught in a horrific thunderstorm where he feared for his life. He kneeled on the ground and cried "Save me St Anne and I will become a Monk", the storm passed and he was saved, later becoming a Monk. This experience started his involvement in the Catholic Church society.
Martin Luther has a fair point, the Catholic Church is corrupt!
Luther began to question several practices from the Catholic Church. He believed the Churches selling of Indulgences was extremely corrupt and had a damaging effect to the church/wider community.
The Roman Catholic Church is damaging society!
Wow, this debate is intense
The Catholic Church is superior!
Luther then proceeded to propose an academic discussion on the Catholic Church's absolution to sinners as it became increasingly corrupt. the 'Disputation on the power and efficacy of indulgences' or the 95 theses were nailed to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church October 31, 1517. These complaints were written in a humble matter, questions rather than accusing; these 95 theses later became the foundation of the Protestant reformation.
The Protestant religion!
Aided by the printing press, Martin Luther's actions were set in motion to reform against the Catholic Church. The 95 theses spread throughout Germany in two weeks and throughout Europe in just two months. The Roman Catholic Church was slowly loosing power
In summer of 1518, Luther's criticism of indulgences proceeded to the church court in a debate against cardinal Thomas Cajetan. The debate lasted three consecutive days and finally, Luther roamed superior and theologically Cajetan as unable to resist the debate against Luther. His impact on the Catholic Church was huge, the debate sparked the beginning of the Protestant religion and drove the Christian society into a new era
The Protestant religion began and society was much more fair as the selling of indulgences was somewhat abolished. The Catholic Church lost their power because of this reformation as the rich could no longer buy their way to heaven or clean their sins. People began turning towards the Protestant religion because of the positive and fair impact it had on the church and wider society.
