Storyboard Text

  • On January 31, 1865 the 13th Amendment was passed freeing all slaves in the US, meaning all men were now truly equal.
  • Southerners were outraged. Now they had no workers for the plantations and their previous property was now an equal.
  • You will never be like us white folk!!
  • Even though they were now free, some slaves didn't know what to do.
  • Some of the now free slaves went to the North and got factory jobs so they could support their family.
  • Thank you so much for the job!
  • Anytime my friend!
  • Other freed slaves stayed in the South and worked on plantations, but now they weren't whipped, got paid, and were provided with food and shelter.
  • Now no matter where they went, everyone was happy because they were paid and with their families.
