- The story takes place from 1914-1918 in a farm in Raleigh, North Carolina. The narrator lives with his Aunt, his parents, and his younger brother.
- Climax
- The younger brother name is Doodle and he has some disabilities and the narrator is disappointed because he wanted to do normal brotherly things with his brother.
- Falling Action
- The narrator becomes ashamed of Doodle because he can't do many physical activities, so he forces Doodle to try to do physical activities. Doodle also ends up finding a dead Scarlet Ibis.
- Resolution
- When it starts to rain the narrator leaves behind Doodle and then when he goes back for him, he is finds his brother Doodle dead.
- The narrator shields Doodle from the rain.
- The narrator learns that he was wrong by being tough and hard on Doodle and that pride can be something good but it can also be something bad.
