- Hello, my name is John Craig Venter and today I'm going to tell you who I am.
- I have received numerous awards and recognitions for my contributions to science and genomics, but these primarily focus on my professional and scientific achievements.
- I was born on October 14, 1946 in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States.
- I earned my bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego, and his doctorate in physiology and pharmacology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
- All of this allowed me to become a prominent figure in human genome research. He founded the Human Genome Research Institute (TIGR) in 1992, which was one of the first centers to sequence the genome of an organism.
- After my work on the human genome project, I became interested in synthetic biology and the creation of genetically modified organisms. In 2010, my team and I announced the creation of the first synthetic organism, called Mycoplasma laboratorium, with a completely synthesized genome.
- I have been an active businessman. I founded several companies, including Celera Genomics, Synthetic Genomics, and the J. Craig Venter Institute, which are dedicated to genomics research and biotechnology.
