  • This scene is important to the entire novel because it is where the plot twists. Before this moment Katniss is not directly involved with the Hunger Games. We can also get a feel of Katniss's selfless personality.

  • This scene is important to the novel because it creates a connection to Peeta and Katniss early on in the novel. This helps create inference about their relationship and their future together in the games. Katniss refers to this interaction many times throughout the book.

  • This scene is important to the entire novel because it is the day the game makers are able to see Katniss's skill. It also is the cause to her emotional episode that follows this scene, which lets us get to know how Katniss reacts to such situations. It shows that Katniss is strong, and individual and sets her apart from the other tributes.
  • This scene is important to the novel because it changes the way that the crowd and Katniss view Peeta. It also poses the question of whether or not he did it for sponsors in the game or actually does like her. It creates tension between him and Katniss, to which she reacts frantically and doesn't treat him the same.
  • This scene is important to the whole novel because it shows how strong Katniss is. It proves that she is a fighter by showing that she did not give up when she was at a low. Finding water when she most needed it and was in a deterred state and helpless state.
