  • Hey Sam!
  • Hi Mike! How's your day been going?
  • I feel a bit confused because I have a few doubts for Rational Numbers
  • Oh, I see rational numbers is a bit hard if you don't understand the chapter. I'll explain it to you.
  • Oh, thank you!
  • A rational number is a type of real numbers, which is in the form of p/q where q is not equal to zero. Any fraction with non-zero denominators is a rational number. Some of the examples of rational number are 1/2, 1/5, 3/4, and so on.
  • Hi Mila! Can you explain integers to me too?
  • No problem! I'll explain this topic too you.
  • Oh okay! What are our differences?
  • Well, as a fraction, I can only have a denominator of one (ex: 2/1) because I am a counting number (1, 2, 3, etc) that can be both positive and negative. Meanwhile, a rational number can be any kind of fraction (ex: 5/1, 1/2, 3/4, 5/8) Therefore, not all rational numbers are integers.
  • Cool! What are our similarities?
  • Well, Although not all rational numbers are integers, all integers are rational numbers. Additionally, both you and I can be written as fractions even if our fractions might look a little different. Lastly, both of us can be either positive or negative.
