- French fur traders move upstate
- British make treaty with Cherokee
- British fail to prtect Cherokee
- Thirty years before the French and Indian War, French fur traders moved into upstate regions. The fur traders moved into areas near the Cherokee in South Carolina. This worried the British and they wanted to sign a treaty with the Cherokee to prevent them from trading with the French
- Cherokee steal British horses
- The British made a treaty with the Native Americans to prevent them from trading with the French and befriending them. The Cherokee thought that this was an alliance however the British saw it as an acknowledgement of British sovereignty(rule). Peace lasted for 30 years until the French and Indian War broke out.
- War breaks out between the British and Cherokee
- The treaty that the British and Cherokee signed held together well for thirty years until the French an Indian war. The Cherokee thought that the British were going to protect them from the war, however that wasn't the case. This led to Cherokee warriors feeling cheated and wanting to get revenge on the British.
- Aftermath of the war
- The Cherokee felt cheated and wanted to get revenge on the BrItish for not protecting them. The Cherokee warriors, wanting revenge took possesion of the horses belonging to the settlers. This made the Britsih settlers so they attacked the Cherokee and once again the Cherokee retaliated. This kept up and led to a full on war.
- After the British and Cherokee kept attacking one another, the royal governor of SC tried to control the Cherokee by stopping all trade and taking Cherokee peace representatives and holding them hostage. This led to a full scale war that was two years long. Many deaths resulted among the Cherokee.
- The Cherokee war lasted two years from 1758-1761. It resulted in many many deaths among the Cherokee tribe. And in the end the Cherokee were forced to give up their land
