- Grendel intrudes
- Hrothgar, king of the Danes has built this hall called Herot. It is beautiful, marked by oceans and nature. It is like heaven
- Hrothgar is sad
- "Made his home in a hell, it is described as murderous. Filled with monsters, death, demons, and evil spirits.
- Grendel Returns
- When it gets dark Grendel sneaks into Herot and kills 30 men without getting caught. He also ran out with their bodies.
- Grendel Rules
- Hrothgar and his warriors discovers what happened and "broke their long feast with tears. Hrothgar sat joyless and mourning.
- Grendel returns even more enraged and kills even more people. Most people have left or hidden.
- Grendel rules and Herot has been deserted for 12 years. Grendel is not willing to bargain for peace. Most people are afraid of him and the dark. He is like a shadow.
