Elena went to the Freedom Tower and was processed as a refugee. Many others like her got processed. This was a movement that made Miami a place for the Cuban Refugees. "The Freedom Tower served as a reception center for Cubans from 1962 to 1974 — the Ellis Island of the South." (Gibson, 383)
