- One night, while Lev and his friends, Vera and the Antokolsky twins, Oleg and Grisha, was sitting on top of the Kirov building until Vera saw a dead German paratrooper parachuting down to the street.
- They raced down to the street to loot the dead German.
- Lev found an knife in a sheath. While Grisha claimed a pair of folded binoculars and a gun.
- "Oleg stripped off the black leather gloves while Vera went for the scarf and goggles."
- But soon the GAZ showed up to punish Lev and his friends for looting.
- Lev and the others decided to run for their lives.
- To escape they decided to climb a fence.
- Lev was all most at the top when he notice Vera has fallen on the ice. So he went back to help her.
- After Lev helped Vera over the fence, Lev notice that someone was pulling his leg down.
- The GAZ has capture Lev and decided to imprison him in the Crosses.
- While Lev was in the prison named the Crosses, he meets Kolya who will become his friend.
