The French impressed U.S. ships and even stole cargo from them. the U.S. wanted to talk it out in order for it to stop but the French demanded a large sum of money in order for them to stop which insulted the U.S. very much...

Jefferson thought that since the French bought from them if they stopped exporting to them it would be like "take that France" but instead they paid no mind and bought elsewhere and because of how powerful they were they didn't really depend on the U.S.

EXACTLY! I've lost so much money because of this. if I catch Jefferson ITS ON SIGHT.
Because the U.S. depended on the French for buying their goods, once they stopped it lead to a devastated U.S economy losing millions of dollars and upset many Americans.
