  • On August 3, 1492, Christopher Columbus set sail from Spain to find a water route to Asia. Instead of finding Asia, he found North America.
  • The First ThanksgivingNovember 1621
  • In 1607, 104 English men and boys arrived in America to start a settlement. They ended up picking Jamestown, Virginia. It was the first permanent English colony in America.
  • Charles Town, South Carolina is foundedApril 1670
  • Created on November 11, 1620, the Mayflower Compact created laws for the Mayflower Pilgrims and non-Pilgrims. It was a short document that established that the colonists would remain loyal to King James, even though they wanted to self govern.
  • French and Indian War EndsFebruary 10, 1763
  • The Mayflower colony was helped by some Native Americans in the area. The colony suffered a brutal winter, but the Native Americans helped them with growing food and fishing. To celebrate the crops and thank the Native Americans, the colonists organized a feast now known as Thanksgiving.
  • In 1670, English colonists founded the city of Charles Town in South Carolina. It was named Charles Town in honor of King Charles II. Soon, Charles Town was a thriving town and port.
  • The French and Indian war ended with the Treaty of Paris. In the treaty, France lost all claims to Canada and gave Louisiana to Spain, while Britain received Florida, Upper Canada, and other French holdings overseas.
