- Set in Paris, France in 1880. A youngmiddle-class woman dreams of a lifestyle far beyondher reach. One day, her husband comes home withtickets to attend a very affluent party, and she isexcited to attend, but upset that she will look dowdy.
- Climaz
- Conflict: Mathilde Loisel isnot wealthy, yet she dreamsto be. Her husband givesher money to buy a dress,but she is not satisfied untilshe asks a wealthy friend fora necklace to borrow.
- Falling Action
- We finally payed the necklace off.
- At the ball, Mme.Loisel is a hit, everyone loves her.Upon leaving she reaches for thenecklace, and finds it missing. Afterdays of searching, she and herhusband decide to replace it with aone that looks identical. Thereplacement cost more money thanthey make, and it takes them tenyears to pay it off.
- Resolution
- Im so sorry but the neclace was actually fake.
- After ten years of hard work and struggles,the couple pays off all their debts.
- We finally payed the Necklace!!
- One day Mathilde iswalking to the market and sees thefriend that she borrowed the necklacefrom. She decides to tell her whathappened.
- Hello!
- Huh?
- The friend Mme. Forestier,tells Mathilde that the necklace was“false”, a fake. The reader is leftcontemplating the irony of thesituation.
