- It was Christmas Eve and Della and Jim needed to get a gift for each other for Christmas. They lived in a flat.
- Climax
- They didn't have very much money. Della only had a dollar and eighty-seven cents and sixty cents of it were pennies.
- Falling Action
- She didn't have enough money to buy a gift for him so she cut most of her hair off. Then she got him a platinum fob chain.
- Resolution
- She got back home and they exchanged gifts. Della gave Jim his gift and Jim gave Della her gift.
- Della got combs, Jim got a platinum fob chain but Jim sold his watch to get Della the combs and Della sold her hair to get Jim the platinum fob chain. So now neither one of them could use the gift.
- Then they realized that they don't need gifts because they have each other. ~The End~
