Storyboard Text
- Refugee Timeline Isabel 1994, Havana Cuba
- We are running out of money and now your father is a wanted criminal. We must leave!

- Cuba was in its time of desperation. A war was brewing and food and money was scarce. Isabel's mother was expecting a baby and the rest of her family was suffering. Her father had been thrown in jail once and was now being accused of more crimes. If they found him they would put him in jail.They knew they had to leave. Isabel had a friend who was sailing to the states. She knew that she and her family had to go with them.
- Somewhere on the Ocean
- Isabel met with her friend Ivan, but he wouldn't let them on. She decided that she had to bribe him. She went to a sailors house and offered to trade him a kitten for some gasoline for the boats engine. He agreed and gave her 2 jugs of gas. This could get them to Miami. Ivan and his family agreed to take them for the gas. They would leave at dawn.
- The Bahama's
- Cafè Bahama's
- They got on their little boat but as soon as they did people started to shoot at them. They did this because they were carrying police officers who were still on duty, this was Ivan's brother and his girlfriend. Once they escaped this Ivan and Isabel's family (including both family's grandparents) were out on the dark and empty oceans of Cuba's coast.
- Miami Coast
- The family's were on the boat for days! The boat was flooding and there was no sign of the Miami coast. The engine slowly broke and they were just adrift. Things got bad though when a giant tanker started barreling toward them! There was huge waves and they were able to resist, but Ivan's dad fell of the boat and Isabel jumped into save him. She brought him back to the boat and they started to bail the flood water, and continued on their journey.
- The family's continued to travel over night. The boat drifted farther and farther off course. When they awoke they were startled to see the silhouette of the coast of a country. As the boat drifted near it appeared to be the states! They jumped for joy. When they got closer they realized that it was Bahama's. The people their wouldn't let them in but tossed them food and water. Sighing they continued on their journey to the states. They decided to take shifts in the water to avoid to much weight on the boat.
- Thank you!
- Ivan and the shark bite death.
- To lower the weight on the boat people jumped out into the water. They held onto the side and stayed adrift. The family's were losing hope but continued their journey. But then tragedy struck. A couple of sharks came and bit Ivan's leg off. Isabel scrambled up the side of the boat. After a couple minutes of bleeding Ivan died. Then soon enough they saw the coast of Miami. But the coast guard spotted them first. Isabel's grandfather jumped out of the boat and distracted them. Soon after Isabel's mother had the baby and they hoisted the boat ashore. they were finally safe in America!
