- The main character, Marty, finds a beagle near the Shiloh schoolhouse while he is exploring.
- Marty and his dad takes Shiloh to Judd Travers’ house because Shiloh belongs to him.
- A scared Shiloh returns to Marty’s house because he ran away when Judd takes his dogs hunting.
