- I will fight Grendel with only my bare hands.
- Grendel has wrecked havoc and humiliated us.
- I defeated nine sea monsters and made the ocean safe.
- Breca beat you in a foolish swimming race. You cannot fight Grendel.
- You have never been in a fight such as mine. Grendel has easily defeated the Danes. But I am different, and will show him how a Geat fights.
