- Why are there so many rules? Who even makes them? And why do I have to follow them?
- If Jen said she didn't like me, maybe it's because Jenny is telling her lies about me again?

- So she can go back to being her best friend?
- Sixth grade is supposed to be perfect. Shannon and The Group are finnaly the oldest, at Wasach elementary, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shannons best friend, Jen, the most popular girl in school and the leader of the group.
- Falling Action
- But just then, gossip felt like survival.
- I knew it was bad to gossip.
- We were the oldest kids at Wasatch Elementary.
- So, Jenny lies a lot.
- Yeah, I know.
- Rules in the group are always changing and Shannon cant keep up with them, she never knows what TV shows are cool, what songs to listen to and which boys your allowed to like. She new as soon as she figured at the rules they would already be changed.
- Resolution
- But after a whole summer of no trouble with friends...
- At the end of fifth grade, I told her she couldn't be a part of our group anymore.
- Jenny had bullied me for years.
- Jenny, the mean girl who likes to spread rumors has told Jen false rumors about Shannon to ruin there friendship. Jen has fallen for them and Shannon has to think of something fast or else who knows what else Jenny will spread.
- I figured I'd have to tell Jen bad stuff about Jenny
- Shannon found a way to get back her best friend, Jen, but this way was going to take some lying and gossiping. Shannon was about started telling Jen rumors about Jenny and how she talks about her behing her back.
- Now I was the one talking behind Jenny's back.
- I felt powerful
- It was such a relief to tell Jen at last.
- She used to tell you lies about me. To make you hate me.
- A million times.
- Like, what did she say?
- Oh my gosh.
- When?
- Jenny and Shannon both agreed to sort of like eachother and that they can both be best friends with Jen. The new rules are now #1 NO gossiping, lying, or spreading false rumors. Shannon also new it was time to make some new friends.
- Yeah, sure.
- Oh, hi.
- Hi Jenny.
- And I wanted to be kind.
- I was wondering if you might want to join our group?
- ...I was feeling brave.
