Storyboard Text

  • The Articles of Confederation were made at the Second Continental Congress in 1781. 
  • The Articles Established a weak Federal Government with limited powers.
  • Americans became concerned about the weakness of the government. A group calling themselves Nationalists began arguing for a stronger government.
  • In May of 1787 delegates from the colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss strengthening the government. This meeting was known as the Constitutional Convention.
  • After four months of arguing and compromising 39 of the 55 delegates gathered, signed the Constitution.
  • Many were not happy with the Constitution as it was. They felt if didn't give the states enough power and didn't address certain rights of the people. These Individuals called themselves Antifederalists.
