- Ava deVos's field of work is on the study of whales and their significance to the environment. She goes into depth in her ted talk and elaborates more in to detail of why.
- Due to 200 years of whaling their population decreased severely. It was like this until the Save the Whales movement in the 70s that defiantly helped whales and why we still have some in the ocean today.

- The reason for stopping whaling was because they are "ecosystem engineers. They help maintain the stability and health of the oceans and even provide services to human society."
- SAVE THE WHALES
- 1 of 2 reasons they are important is whale poop. Whales live deep in the ocean because that is where they eat. When they come up for air they also dispose their waste which contains "essential limiting nutrients" that are hard to acquire due to them being severely deep in the ocean and is super beneficial to the entire ecosystem.
- The second reason why whales are significant happens after they are dead. Their carcass provides food to "400 odd species" and by removing these carcasses from the ocean due to whaling its likely some unknown species went extinct in the process. They also "transport about 190k tons of carbon." This helps because they bring carbon to the ocean depth which traps it thus delaying global warming which benefits humans and the future of Earth.
- Ava deVos concludes her Ted Talk by giving an overview of what she said. She summarizes and elaborates on the effect 200 years of whaling had on our environment and why it was so crucial to save them. Her work was able to bring light on something that is most likely unknown or not well aware of to the public.
