First let me break down the cell components for you
Slayt: 7
First we have our cytoplasm. When you think about cytoplasm think about jam!!
Slayt: 8
I say jam because it has a jelly like consistency. It's texture allows it to support and hold different types of organelles within the cell
Slayt: 9
Next up, we have ribosomes. These guys are responsible for making proteins.
Slayt: 10
Think about a factory where ribosomes are responsible for assembling material to create proteins.
Slayt: 11
There are two different types of ribosomes. Theres membrane ribsomes that can be found on the rough ER and they'll make proteins that will leave the cell
Slayt: 12
Okay next up we have the Rough ER! The Rough ER is the site of protein synthesis, which makes sense because this is where those membrane ribosomes are attached to!
Slayt: 13
There's also the smooth endoplasmic reticulum. It's smooth because it does not have any ribosomes attached to it. It's function involves lipid metabolism and steroid synthesis
Slayt: 14
I think things are starting to make sense!
Slayt: 15
I'm glad to hear that because we're almost done!
Slayt: 16
A cool thing about the rough ER is that they have docking stations to which ribosomes will attach and translate mRNA into proteins
Slayt: 17
My favorite, the mitochondria is up next!
Slayt: 18
Our golgi apparatus is like our packing center! It's responsible for packing and shipping the proteins
Slayt: 19
Next up we have our lysosomes aka our cleaning crew! These guys are responsible for digesting and breakdown old material in the cell
Slayt: 20
Next up we have the golgi apparatus!
Slayt: 21
The mitochondria is responsible for providing energy for the cell in the form of ATP! It has an inner and outer member with cristae in the inner membrane for increase surface area
Slayt: 22
Just remember the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell!!
Slayt: 23
Lastly we have our nucleus!
Slayt: 24
They're basically the brains of the group and contain the genetic material to encode proteins!
Slayt: 25
well that's basically it for cell components
Slayt: 26
Thanks, I finally get it now!!
