- Sarah Breedlove (Madam C.J. Walker) was born Dec 23rd,1867. She started as a child of sharecroppers to one of the first self-made successful women/entrepreneurs
- Sarah became a commission agent for Annie Malone and sold her products and also learned a lot from her.Because of skin disorders Sarah suffered from dandruff, baldness and etc. She decided to sell hair products and Malone got mad because she said her formula.
- “I got my start by giving myself a start.”-Sarah
- Sarah was orphaned at age seven and worked in cotton fields in Delta and Mississippi to support herself
- She would always say she would give herself the life she wanted
- After her and her 2 year old daughter moved to St. Louis where she met her second husband Charles J Walker whom she got her worldwide known name Madame C.J Walker
- Hmm I think I should start selling products for African American women that suffer from hair loss/brittle hair like me

- She started going door to door promoting her products

- Yes, I've actually been looking for good products for my hair, because it's very brittle. I'll also tell my friends about it
- She learned about hair care from her brothers whom were barbers, then she decided to go further with her business
- Madam C.J Walker and her husband opened a salon in Pittsburgh, then Indianapolis and then Harlem.
- Before her death, Madame C.J walker was worth between half a million and a million, she was the first wealthiest African American Woman
- She became famous worldwide from not only her products but showing African American women how to budget, build a business, and encourage them to be financially independent.
- Madame C.J Walker opened up a factory, salons, and beauty schools to train agents. By 1917 her and her company trained nearly 20,000 women
