In a surprising turn, a patriot lawyer, John Adams (the future president), defended the soldiers in court to ensure a fair trial—most were found not guilty or got light punishments. But here's why it was a big deal: local leaders like Samuel Adams and Paul Revere used this incident as massive propaganda. They called it the "Boston Massacre" and made engravings showing the British as evil butchers.
