One of the main themes in The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street By Rod Serling is 'Mankind is it's own worst enemy.' In pg. 85, the people scream, shout, and accuse each other without any evidence, like how people say its charlie or Tommy. This supports the theme because some people accuse others without any EVIDENCE and they were a team until Les goodman's car started and that's when the chaos started. In pg. 82 the crowd see's a figure walking towards them, which makes Charlie snatch the gun out of steve's hand and shoots the figure which it appeared to be Pete van horn. This supports the theme because the people at maple street don't have the guts to try to figure out who was walking towards them, instead of shooting the figure. In pg. 86, Figure one says they pick the most dangerous enemy they can find... and it's themselves. this supports the Theme because the people at Maple street don't trust eachother to be in a group and they make exuses on who and who is not the person that is messing with everything.
