Montag finds out that Mildred overdosed on sleeping pills and calls for medical help. Two operators arrive that don't take the situation seriously and one even smokes a cigarette during the operation.
The woman who refused to leave stood lying on top of the pile of books she has. Instead of leaving and paying the price, she decides to light the match and kills herself. She would've rather have died with the books than be imprisoned and treated.
Montag meets Faber in the park for the first time. Faber is found with poetry and he even recites some poetry. Montag does not expose and arrest Faber although Faber committing a crime.
After Montag burns his own house, out of rage he murders Captain Beatty and the Mechanical Hound. Montag blames both himself and Beatty for the incident by calling himself a fool while also believing that Beatty had it coming.
Montag while being hunted crosses the river and finds himself in front of a railroad track. Montag feels that Clarisse once followed this path too, hinting that Clarisse might've meat the homeless college graduates and learned from them.
The city is bombed by a fighter jet and the homeless camp near the train tracks are not affected by it. The entire city of ash and rubble lie where people used to live.
