In the end Jack Fiddler was killed by the Windigo, leaving his brother, Joseph Fiddler, alone. So, Joseph didn't follow through with their plan to go against the law and escape. Two years later, Joseph died to the same creature as his brother. They wanted to prove to the law that what they were doing was right. However, what the Fiddlers didn't see was that while trying to protect their community, they were also killing them off themselves.
