She came from a long line of doctors, lawyers, and teachers, but she wanted to be a writer. She loved telling stories from a young age. One day she mysteriously found a composition book for her, a sign of this career.
She attended Saint Mary's for college and Howard University. She received a bachelor’s degree in English at Howard.

Jaqueline graduated in 1985. A few years later she started writing her first book, "Last Summer with Mazion." She finished it in 2002.
