  • THE REGULARS ARE COMING!
  • Effect
  • Great Britain refused to repeal the Intolerable Acts; as a result, colonists continued to boycott their goods and formed militias. The militia formed in Massachusetts was named Minutemen. The Redcoats were headed to Boston because of the British spies that saw the colonists hiding weapons.
  • The night of the battle, April 18th, Paul Revere rode his horse to spread the news that the British soldiers, or regulars, were coming. The colonists were ready and marched over to Concord, Massachusetts. In addition, British troops were set out to destroy and take their weapons.
  • The result of the battle left 49 Minutemen killed and 73 British soldiers dead. This battle was significant because the first shot fired was then known as "The shot heard round the world". The reason it was so important was that this shot represented the start of the American Revolution.
