- An example of a metaphor in the Raven is '"Prophet!" said I, "thing of evil – prophet still, if bird or devil!" This example from the raven shows that the narrator is speaking to the raven and comparing it to a demonic figure.
- One example of an allusion in the Raven is in the line that says "night's plutonian shore", this alludes to Pluto the god of the underworld and gives this part of the poem a creepy feel.
