The duke is curious to know if all viola has told him was a lie and if she likes him, and viola tells the duke that it is all the truth and that she does love him and the duke says he wants to see her in women's clothing while holding her hand.
Malvolio arrives angry and Olvia explains that she was not the one who wrote the letter but it was not her who wrote it but was maria who wrote the letter and that he got their writing mixed up and fell for a prank played on him by Maria, sir Andrew and Sir Toby and Malvolio says he will get his revenge on them.
The cast leaves after a long and crazy day and the clown sings a sad song as they all leave.
