This is Martin Luther from the Protestant Reformation. He is depicted here putting parchment on the door of his monastery, saying what he thinks is wrong with the church and what they should change.

The crowd did not like these ideas.
At the time, these beliefs were highly frowned upon. Martin Luther was going against every aspect of the Church, and this document was called the Ninety-five Theses.
Well, well, well...
Once the church caught word of all the things Martin Luther had said, he was excommunicated from the church, which meant he was kicked out. Pope Leo X was the one who made the decision, and he did not want his power to lessen.
And so he left...
One year later, he was summoned by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and the German Diet in the city of Worms asked to take back what he said about the church.
