- We meet the main character Midas and learn that he has a daughter named marygold. we learn that he has a large obsession with gold and is only ever thinking about gold saying he even wishes the clouds could be gold so he can out them in his box.
- CLIMAX
- midas is visited by the immortal god and makes a wish to be able to turn anything into gold. Midas thinks this will solve all of his problems but then he quickly learns it has drawbacks. he cannot drink or eat without the stuff turning into gold and so he instantly regrets it.
- FALLING ACTION
- RESOLUTION
- As the narrator reads, the sounds he describes begin to echo in the house. When he reaches the climax, they hear a scream. Usher tips over his chair and begins rocking back and forth. Usher whispers that he’s been hearing sounds from his sister’s coffin and he fears he buried her alive. The door flies open, and there is Madeline, covered in blood.
- Madeline leaps upon Roderick and dies. Roderick also dies, likely from shock and fear. The narrator flees the house.
- As the narrator watches, he sees the house collapse and disappear into the ethereal fog and waters. Eventually, the house is completely gone.
