Because of the Persian War(s), Greece began to see themselves as one united nation rather than individual city-states. For example, the Delian League was formed
The Battle of Marathon occured around 490 BC during the first Persian war. The Persians led by Darius were attacking Athens for revenge for the burning of their temple but the Greeks used the geography and their superior weapons to their advantage, resulting in the Greeks winning the battle.
This symbolizes Persia funding Sparta.
One of the biggest turning points during the war was when the Persians funded Sparta to build their fleet. At the time, the war had gone on for a while and seemed like neither side was winning. Athens had the more powerful navy, but Sparta had the more powerful army. When Persia started funding Sparta, the Spartans were able to make a stronger navy which gave them the advantage over Sparta, allowing Sparta to be victorious over Athens.
Sparta had won the Peloponnesian War, but after the war, small wars broke out between city-states which left them vulnerable and ended up in the city-states being conquered by the Macedonians.
Because of Alexander the Great, the Macedonians were able to conquer part of Greecce. He also built Greek-like cities in different areas (besides Greece), which spread Greek culture.
Alexander the Great was incredibly important to the Macedonians. Alexander died due to Malaria, which was devastating for the Macedonians. After his death, multiple generals began to rule the empire since no singular man was strong enough to do so. Even though there were multiple generals, the empire began to crumble and was torn apart by other armies.
