Oregon trail preparation!!!

Many families moved West because land was cheap or even free. Jobs were hard to find in the East, so people hoped for new opportunities.
Some people wanted to escape disease outbreaks in big cities.
I hope Oregon gives us a fresh start!!
My family lived in a crowded town back East, but we wanted more land and a better life.

They needed oxen, which were stronger and survived the trip better than horses.Wagons had to be light, because heavy wagons broke easily.
Families packed flour, bacon, beans, and coffee because they lasted a long time.
Before leaving, we bought supplies like veggies, water, tools, clothes, and wagon parts. We also had a map of the trail.
We have enough to survive the whole trip!

Everyone had a job on the trail. Men drove the wagon, women cooked, and kids gathered firewood.
I hope we can keep up
People walked most of the way to avoid wearing out the oxen. Travelers had to cross dangerous rivers that could flip wagons.
YAY!!
At night, families formed a wagon circle for safety.
