Prison Refomr

The Prison and Asylum Reform took place in the 1840s. And was founded by Dorathea Dix. Dorothea Dix was an American advocate on behalf of the indigent mentally ill. The Prison and Asylum Reform was started to tell people that they can't treat the mental ill differently than others. This movement emphasizes treatment for the mental ill. She created the first generation of American mental asylums. She wanted less humans being abused and contained in terrible conditions.

There was a tremendous need for this reform because we needed to change the perspective of others, they though that the mentally ill were considered a result of sin.
This movement had a big impact on the world, it brought attention to how others treat the mental ill. It helped others see how terribly we were treated and that we deserve better.
It's so frustrating to think that people would treat others like this!

After Dorathea Dix made the Prison and Asylum Reform life got so much better, many people wanted to help the ill. The mentally Ill got humanly treatment. And they also improved the conditions of mental asylums across the United States.
I am so glad that Dorathea Dix made this Reform!
