I'm Della and this is Jim. We're husband and wife and live in this house behind us. We are financially struggling but we both have prized possessions. I have very long hair and Jim has a golden watch. Christmas is tomorrow and I don't have enough money to buy Jim a good gift. $1.87 is all I have!
My salary has been cut by $10, I just don't know what to do anymore.
Exposition

The only thing that I could come up with to make money fast is to sell my long hair. I saw a golden watch chain that's $21 and it would go perfectly with Jim's golden watch. This lady is offering me $20 dollars for my hair! Right after this, I'm going to buy the watch chain which will leave me with $0.87, and hurry home before Jim gets back to ensure I can make myself look pretty for him with my new short hair.
Oh I really hope Jim still thinks I'm pretty with my hair shorter. Besides, It'll grow back, it grows fast. Plus, this watch chain fits Jim's character perfectly, so I need to get it.

We both sold our prize possession to buy each other a gift. But what we bought went with that person's prized possession!
I sold my watch to have the money to buy your combs, and you cut your hair and sold it to have enough money to buy a watch chain for the watch I don't have anymore.
