  • Schenck v. United States.A Tale of Freedoms during War.
  • Once upon a time in 1919...There was a time when war was at hand--WWI to be exact. Manynations needed many people to fight! However, this is a story of a duo that stood up for the people's speech and the freedoms that go along with it.Charles Schenck and Elizabeth Baer were the two who fought for the freedom of speech!
  • One day, a kingdom went to war. All men gathered into the castle, and if their name was drawn, they were taken and turned into War-Wolves. Two people, Charles and Elizabeth protested the act! They shouted, Men are needed, but is it right?! What about our opinion?!!
  • You have been found guilty of passing out 15,000 leaflets deterring people from war, and standing up to the draft! We need these War-Wolves more than ever!
  • The constitution states that we have the right to speak up and say what we want about important matters! You cannot charge us with anything for speaking our opinions to you!
  • Your leaflets have caused many problems for our draft and in creating War-Wolves for fighting. You both are released! In a time of war, we have to put some rights aside and bend rules to make sure our nation succeeds. Let this be a lesson to you both!
  • Thank you. We understand. The constitutional principles are to be bent when our nation needs help!
  • We were appealed and, though found guilty of espionage, set free. We still support the principles of the constitution of first amendment and 13th amendment. 1st amendment mentions Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. 13th amendment abolishes slavery. We think drafts should be reconsidered. However, when a nation needs help, it will put rights aside to get aid.
  • With the first amendment of the constituion recognized from their efforts, Congress let the two go. With both the constitutional principles, and needs of Congress met, they all respected each other and lived happily ever after...for now.
