Serbia did this! We declare war!
The biggest European powers had imperialized many parts of the world. Britain, France, Spain and Russian had colonies everywhere creating conflict and tension to grab and colonize land with the best resources.
The Archduke of Austria-Hungary was assassinated, Francis Ferdinand. This was seen as an attack on the country as a whole. They believed Serbia had a role in helping the assassins.
Austria-Hungary compiled a list of demands in compensation of the assassination. Serbia refused to comply with the demands and Austria-Hungary declared war.
Majority of the war was under the two alliances fighting. The Triple Entente, consisting of France, Great Britain, and Russia opposed the Triple Alliance- Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy.
The Ottoman Empire's economy declined due to inflation. There was an imbalance of trade between the East and West. The Empire's participation in the war led to its collapse.
At the end of the war, the Treaty of Versailles is signed pledging that Germany surrenders its colonies, reduces its military, pay reparations, and accept fault and blame for the war.
