Hi Isabel, i'm Mahmoud and I am a refugee, but I came from Syria. Currently, I live in Germany and this is my first time coming to the U.S. How was your journey from Cuba to the U.S?

It was upsetting and scary too. My home in Syria got bombed and my family had to meet a smuggler to get a dinghy. Then when we got to sea, it popped on rocks and it turned out the life jackets were fake too. Since the boat popped, me, my mom, and my little sister got separated from my dad and brother in the chaos. In order to save my little sister we had to give her to some other people on a boat so she didn't have to almost drown with us.
It was scary and upsetting because I was on a home-made boat and there was holes in it because the Cuban police shot at it. Also me and my friend, Ivan were swimming in the water to reduce the weight of the boat and a shark bit him and he died, but how was your journey to Germany from Syria.
