Yick Wo V. Hopkins

In 1886, an officer went to a laundry mat run by Yick Wo, an Aisan man and gave him a fine of $10 because of a law that prohibited Asians or other races from owning stores.

Yick Wo refused to pay the fine and was arrested by the officer and taken to prison. At the same time, Wo Lee was also arrested. Both decided to file a lawsuit.
The supreme court had to ask if fining and arresting Yick Wo had violated his 14th amendment rights.
The court unanimously ruled in favor of Yick Wo, allowing him and other Aisan Americans to own stores freely.
