- The Tea Act in 1773 actually lowered the price of tea but colonists were wary of the British attempts to collect revenue so they boycotted the purchase of tea.
- The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred on December 16, 1773. Colonists disguised as Indians and dumped 342 chests of tea into Boston harbor.
- The Intolerable Acts were passed as a retaliation to the Boston Tea Party. The acts closed the Boston harbor and removed the Massachusetts colony charter.
- The "shot heard around the world" was fired in Lexington, Massachusetts. This was a skirmish between the British and the British and the American militiamen. This battle continued through Concord and is known as the Battle of Lexington and Concord.
