Building Relationships

Storyboard Description: In this storyboard, you can see the teacher (me) cracking a joke with students to start class, but then building off of that joke in order to go deeper with students. By starting with humor, it engages them in the subject and then allows the teacher to build relationships with students by allowing them to open up about a subject they may not necessarily be comfortable sharing with the class or even saying out loud. It also gives the teacher important information that can help her teach the students. Text: First cell: "Alright class, we're going to start our independent writing time with a joke... why did the student eat his homework?" Second cell: "why Miss Dubberke?" Third Cell: "Because his teacher told him it would be a piece of cake! In all reality though, teachers understand there's times where homework won't get done. Is there anything you want me to know about you that sometimes stops you from doing homework? Use that as your prompt today."
