Katniss shows bravery.
After Prim's name is called at the Reaping, Katniss offers herself up as tribute in order to keep her sister safe.

Her life is in danger.
Katniss is rushed off to the Capitol to participate in the 74th annual Hunger Games.
Slayt: 3
Katniss plays to win.
Katniss refuses to play like the others. She tries to not only to beat the other tributes, but also to beat the Game Makers.
Slayt: 4
The Game-Makers react.
The Game Makers decide to kick the games up a notch by sending tracker jackers to attack. Katniss is caught by a cluster of them. She gets away but ends up in a lot of pain.
Slayt: 5
Katniss shows respect.
When Rue dies, Katniss doesn't allow her death to be just another TV event, which is typical in the arena. Katniss pauses to give her a special sendoff, surrounding her with flowers.
Slayt: 6
Katniss earns respect.
The people of Rue's district show their rebellious side to honor and show appreciation to Katniss for her kind sendoff to Rue.
