Sam wants to be a Rebel soldier in the war. His father supports the British and doesn't want to hear it. Sam and Mr. Meeker get into a big argument.

While Tim is in bed, he hears his father and Sam arguing. Mr. Meeker recalls his war days and doesn't want anything to happen to Sam. Sam leaves the house, refusing to quit.

At church, Tom Warrups confides in Tim that Sam is staying in his hut. Tim lied to his father and told him, he had to help Tom Warrups move a fallen tree. A good excuse to go see Sam.
Don't tell your father, but Sam is at my hut.

Tim and Sam talk in the hut about Sam going to war. Then Tim sees the gun, so he tells Sam to give it back to their father. Sam and Betsy tell Tim that he needs the gun or else he will be shot in the war.
Slayt: 5
The Rebels came into the tavern demanding for Mr. Meekins gun. He told the soldiers he didn't have it, his son did. They didn't believe him and cut him on the cheek with a sword.
Slayt: 6
While traveling to Varplanck's Point, Tim and Father are stopped by Rebel cowboys that want to steal their cattle. Then Loyalists laws come down the road and scare the cowboys away. The Loyalists then escort Father and Tim to Varplanck's Point.
